Liquid Borders \| Bari 2013 Venerdì 28 giugno, alle ore 11.30 presso la Sala Sveva del Castello Svevo di Bari si terrà la conferenza stampa della mostra "Liquid Borders". L'Associazione culturale "La Corte - Fotografia e ricerca" ed International ArtExpo, sono liete di annunciare l'inaugurazione di Liquid Borders - festival internazionale di fotografia, video arte ed installazione, che si terrà a Bari nelle prestigiose sale del Castello Svevo, di Santa Teresa dei Maschi e della Sala Murat, dal 03 al 31 luglio 2013. L'inaugurazione di Liquid Borders avrà luogo mercoledì 03 luglio 2013 presso il Castello Svevo di Bari alle ore 18.00. L'esposizione negli spazi di Santa Teresa dei Maschi e nella Sala Murat, sarà inaugurata giovedì 04 luglio rispettivamente alle ore 17.00 e alle ore 18.00. La mostra resterà aperta fino al 31 luglio 2013. Liquid Borders è incentrato sul tema delle ibridazioni tra arti visive, culture, identità fisiche e sociali nelle città contemporanee, nonché sulle interazioni e contaminazioni tra uomo e spazio urbano. I confini sono sempre più indefiniti ed eterei, l'identità stessa, che rende ogni persona o luogo un'entità riconoscibile e distinta, risulta fluida e priva di nette demarcazioni culturali, religiose ed etniche. Su questo tema sono stati chiamati a confrontarsi i 42 artisti invitati nelle 3 sedi della città di Bari che ospitano la mostra in programmazione fino al 31 luglio 2013. Lo studio alla base cerca di decifrare quali siano le differenze ancora presenti nelle società moderne, quali le frontiere divenute liquide, cadute. Gli artisti lo fanno utilizzando la materia, quella che non può non farsi notare, lo fanno attraverso immagini, suoni, video ed interventi installativi site-specific. Fausta Maria Bolettieri e Luca Curci, curatori. Nella Sala Sveva, al piano terra del Castello, sarà presentato il video "Solipsist" di Andrew Thomas Huang, le opere di video architettura "Ordos", "Absolute Towers" e "Fish Tank" di MAD architects, e il video inedito "KUH" di Andreas Mareš. Nella Sala Bona Sforza del Castello Svevo, sarà presentata l'installazione "Levitation" di Daniel Pešta. Al secondo piano del Castello Svevo, nella Sala Angioina, verrà esposta una selezione di opere fotografiche della serie "Feminist" di Catrine Val, assieme alle opere fotografiche di Nora Schöpfer. Nella Sala Bona Sforza del Castello Svevo saranno esposte due opere fotografiche di Antonio Trotta. Il Cortile del Castello Svevo ospiterà l'opera "Call your mother" di Daniela Corbascio, mentre l'installazione "Extemporary blankets", dell'artista Emanuele Saracino, dialogherà all'interno della Sala Murat con l'opera di sound art di Heather Connelly "This is me - Speaking through the voice of another". In contemporanea a Liquid Borders, all'interno della Cappella del Castello Svevo, l'Associazione "La Corte - Fotografia e ricerca", presenterà la mostra fotografica di Domenico Pastore. Nella Sala Multimediale del Castello Svevo e nella Sala Conferenze di Santa Teresa dei Maschi, saranno presentate le opere video degli artisti: Benna (Italia), Christine Istad (Norvegia), Debbie Davies (USA), Fred L'Epée (Svizzera), German Arrubla (Colombia), Gianluigi Maria Masucci (Italia), Gregory Steel (USA), Grè (Italia), İpek Okyar (Turchia), Johannes Knoops (USA), Kate Macdonald (Canada), Katrina Stamatopoulos (Australia), Launa Bacon (USA), Laura Potrovic & Darko Jeftic (Croazia), Lucia Flego (Italia), May San Alberto (Spagna), Maureen Bachaus (Paesi Bassi), Takeshi Furuya (Giappone), Todd Fuller (Australia), Toni Simò (Spagna), Tony Neto (Brasile) e Vera Arjoma (Finlandia). Nella Sala Angioina e nella Sala Bona Sforza del Castello Svevo saranno esposte le opere fotografiche di Alessio Larocchi (Italia), Alice Giacone (Italia), Labib M. Sharfuddin (Bangladesh), Sanja Jovanovic (Serbia), Paul Tarpey (Irlanda), Giouli Tsatsopoulou (Grecia), Eran Gilat (Israele) e l'animazione digitale di Stefano Romano (Italia). A Santa Teresa dei Maschi saranno esposte le installazioni degli artisti Mohammad Arif (India) e Erica Battello (Italia), oltre alla selezione video sopra citata. Il Festival Liquid Borders si concluderà il 31 luglio 2013 con l'assegnazione di un premio, consistente nella partecipazione ad un festival internazionale, organizzato da International ArtExpo ed offerto dal gruppo It's LIQUID oltre a tre residenze per artisti presso Palazzo Calò a Bari, Tenuta Pinto a Mola di Bari (Bari) e Palazzo Siena a Minervino di Lecce (Lecce). Il suo video "Mutual Core" creato per Bjork, è stato presentato in premier presso il MOCA di Los Angeles (USA). I suoi lavori sono stati esposti e proiettati presso il Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Los Angeles (USA), il "Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase" a Cannes (Francia), l'Hammer Museum di Los Angeles (USA), il MOCA a Taipei (Taiwan), lo ZKM Media Museum di Karlsruhe (Germania), l'ASVOFF festival presso il Centre Pompidou di Parigi (Francia), etc. Fra le onorificenze ricevute citiamo lo Special Jury Prize for Experimental Short al Slamdance Film Festival (USA). Verranno, inoltre, presentate le opere di video architettura "Ordos", "Absolute Towers" e "Fish Tank" di MAD architects, uno dei più innovativi ed indiscussi studi di architettura a livello mondiale fondato da Ma Yansong, illustre portavoce di una nuova generazione di architetti dallo stile iper contemporaneo. Tra gli innumerevoli e futuristici progetti già realizzati da MAD architects: le Absolute Towers a Toronto (Canada), il China Wood Sculpture Museum (Cina), l'Harbin Culture Island ad Harbin (Cina) e l'Ordos Museum (Mongolia Interna). Andreas Mareš, artista austriaco dalla poetica intimista ed esistenziale, presenterà il video inedito "KUH". Le opere di Mareš sono state esibite al "Videoholica" (Bulgaria, 2012), al "PAN International Videoart Festival" (Italia, 2012), al "Große Kunstausstellung" (Germania, 2011) ed in innumerevoli esposizioni internazionali. Nella Sala Bona Sforza del Castello Svevo, sarà presentata l'installazione "Levitation" di Daniel Pešta, artista ceco rappresentato dal MuMo Muzeum Montanelli di Praga (Repubblica Ceca), le cui opere sono state esposte in musei, collezioni e biennali internazionali tra cui il museo di arte contemporanea di Praga (Repubblica Ceca), di Osnabrück (Germania) e di Solingen (Germania). Quest'anno, in occasione della 55esima edizione de La Biennale di Venezia, ha presentato il suo progetto "I was born in your bed" nell'isola della Giudecca. Al secondo piano del Castello Svevo, nella Sala Angioina, verrà esposta una selezione di opere fotografiche della serie "Feminist" di Catrine Val, artista tedesca dallo stile inconfondibile. Fra le sue mostre: "Falsefakes" presso il Centre de la photographie, Ginevra (Svizzera); "FIVAC Festival", Camaguey (Cuba); "Internationale Frauen film festival", Dortmund (Germania); "European Chronicles - Photography Festival", Cardiff (UK); "Gaze on what I gaze" presso l'Art Museum at The Art Park, Hsinchu (Taiwan); "Human rights" presso la Fondazione Opera dei Caduti di Rovereto (Italia). La Sala Angioina ospiterà anche le opere fotografiche di Nora Schöpfer, artista austriaca vincitrice dell'Art Award conferitole dal Federal Ministry for Education and Arts, "Geist und Form" di Vienna (Austria). I suoi lavori sono stati presentati in gallerie, musei e fiere tra le quali la Städtische Galerie Wollhalle di Güstrow (Germania), la "KunStart 12" Biennale di arte contemporanea emergente a Bolzano (Italia), la Galerie Thomas Flora di Düsseldorf (Germania), l'Università di Innsbruck (Austria), il Giardino di Daniel Spörri a Seggiano in Toscana (Italia), la Galleria Prisma di Bolzano (Italia), il dipartimento di Belle Arti dell'Università di New Orleans (USA). Nella Sala Bona Sforza del Castello Svevo saranno esposte due opere fotografiche di Antonio Trotta, emulsioni su vetro degli anni '70. Trotta nel 1960 è tra i promotori del "Gruppo SI", nel 1968 é invitato a La Biennale di Venezia a rappresentare il Padiglione Argentino. La sua ricerca é sempre stata incentrata sulla problematica del rapporto fra "arte e spazio". Il Cortile del Castello Svevo ospiterà l'opera "Call your mother" di Daniela Corbascio, artista pugliese che vanta numerose partecipazioni a collettive nazionali ed internazionali, tra le quali la partecipazione al Padiglione Puglia de La Biennale di Venezia nel 2011, alla mostra "Ritorno a Venezia" del Museo Pino Pascali nel 2011 presso Palazzo Michiel dal Brusà, Venezia. Il Festival Liquid Borders si concluderà il 31 luglio 2013 con l'assegnazione di un premio, consistente nella partecipazione ad un festival internazionale, organizzato da International ArtExpo ed offerto dal gruppo It's LIQUID oltre a tre residenze per artisti presso Palazzo Calò a Bari, Tenuta Pinto a Mola di Bari (Bari) e Palazzo Siena a Minervino di Lecce (Lecce). La fortificazione medievale probabilmente risale al 1132 e fu voluta dal re normanno Ruggero II. PlanetSolar arrives in Boston!

After Miami and New York, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar reached Boston on June 22 with scientists from the University of Geneva (UNIGE) onboard. The researchers are sailing on the largest solar boat ever built in order to successfully carry out the 'PlanetSolar DeepWater' expedition, which aims to analyze the Gulf Stream, one of the most important regulators of European and North American climates. To mark the third leg of the American tour, the PlanetSolar and UNIGE teams will strengthen their interaction with important institutions such as the Boston Children's Museum, the Boston Museum of Science, the Greentown Labs, the MIT Energy Club and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and will offer a series of events to raise public awareness about climate issues. Stopover from 22 to 27 June 2013.

The capital of Massachusetts is recognized in particular for its research programs in the fields of technology and oceanography, and many institutions are heavily involved in sustainable development. PlanetSolar and UNIGE have the opportunity to communicate the stakes of the 'DeepWater' expedition by organizing a series of events with support from Swissnex Boston. For example, children will be able to participate in the construction of a model solar boat at a workshop at the Boston Children's Museum; public conferences will be held with researchers from UNIGE, the MIT Energy Club, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute; a temporary exhibition will be displayed at the Boston Science Museum, etc.

'This project fits perfectly with our University's missions: education, research, and service to the community. Geneva is the birthplace of global governance, therefore her involvement in such an adventure was inherent. In fact, at the heart of the city of Calvin, international organizations and key decision makers are addressing the challenges of climate change', says Jean-Dominique Vassalli, rector of UNIGE.

The 'PlanetSolar DeepWater' scientific expedition will continue along the east coast

Launched in Florida at the beginning of the month, the 'PlanetSolar DeepWater' exhibition seeks to collect a continuous series of physical and biological measures along the Gulf Stream, both in the water and in the air, using advanced instruments with the expertise of UNIGE scientists. Headed by Professor Martin Beniston, climatologist and director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences at UNIGE, the research team is studying the key parameters of climate regulation, namely aerosols and phytoplankton, in order to improve our understanding of complex interactions between the ocean and atmosphere, as well as the role these interactions play in climate change.

After the Boston stopover, the boat will continue its route along the Gulf Stream until reaching St-John's, Canada. Then, the catamaran will set out to conquer the northernmost part of the Atlantic.

About PlanetSolar

The MS Tûranor PlanetSolar, built in Kiel, Germany, is a catamaran powered exclusively by solar energy. On May 4, 2012, after sailing for 584 days, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar completed the first solar-powered trip around the world.

For her 2013 expeditions, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar underwent major maintenance operations. The most significant optimization was related to the propulsion system—the surface propellers were replaced by a completely immerged system. Moreover, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar's crew is comprised of: Gérard d'Aboville (Captain), Andrew Mikkelsen (Second), Antoine Simon (electrical engineer), Hugo Buratti (seaman and steward), and Vincent Brunet (steward). During the 'PlanetSolar DeepWater' expedition, the UNIGE scientific team rounds out the crew.

After leaving Las Palmas (Spain) on April 26, 2013, the catamaran reached St. Martin (French West Indies) 22 days later. The MS Tûranor PlanetSolar therefore broke her own world record speed for a solar-powered transatlantic crossing, set in 26 days during her trip around the world in 2010.
