ART, Migration and Identity in the Old Church in Amsterdam. Residency program of 8 African Bienialle artists in collaboration 8 European artists and dispora. Continuing the dialogue!

Art in Redlight & Thamgidi foundation are pleased to announce the first exhibition in Amsterdam that came as a result of a unique collaboration between Artists from Africa, Europe and the diaspora.Under the theme  Art, Migration and Identity, this unique art exbibition based on the IFAA 2008 artist in residency program will reflect the responce of the artists to the theme, the representation of identity and Migration in the Arts, while at the same time inviting the audience to the continuing dialogue. Initiated as a responce to the ongoing discourse of putting the unfamiliar into boxes, this exhibition will take the viewer on a journey

that interrogates and explores issues on Art, Migration and Identity.

In reflection to the collaboration between the artists, Misheck Masamvu 2008 IFAA participant wrote;

"Days come to an end and experiences remain, in the time spent within the belly of IFAA, what counted was not my individual input rather the collective resolution to forces of our interest and anxiety to the torments of actual drama that shapes mankind. The individual, caged or free, that individual became a force within a belly full of hope and optimism. We had a sensitive theme to guide us through during the residence, Art, Migration and Identity; we became a family according to moment, place and circumstance. Today back in my native land, I pursue a dream to address the challenges of my generation, by promoting and empowering artist through dialogue".
