Toronto, January 12, 2010-  Stirring long song and throat singing from the ancient Mongolian steppes and the haunting lilt of the morin khuur (horse-head fiddle) will mesmerize audiences as Red Sky Performance presents Tono: a music concert, kicking off a year of celebratory events in honour of its 10th anniversary. To mark this milestone, Red Sky launches the festivities with two not-to-be-missed performances featuring the live music from its acclaimed dance and music creation Tono at Toronto's Music Gallery on January 20 and 21.

Tono: a music concert features a trio direct from Mongolia - Tuvshinjargal Damindinjav, Bat-Orshikh Bazarvaani, Batmend Baasankhuu - along with Toronto musician Rick Sacks.

Heavily grounded in the theme of horse culture, spanning plains traditions in Asia and North America and interweaving shamanism on both continents, this concert is an opportunity to see and hear the music from Tono before it heads out on a Western Canadian tour that includes the distinction of being a featured performance at the Cultural Olympiad of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics February 11-14. Later, Red Sky travels to the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, China for five performances where it has the prestigious honour of performing at the Opening of the Canadian Pavilion (May 8).

Renowned for its artistry and innovation, Red Sky Performance shapes contemporary world Indigenous performance in dance, theatre and music. Founded in 2000 by Artistic Director Sandra Laronde, who hails from the Teme-Augama-Anishnaabe (People of the Deep Water) in Temagami, Northern Ontario, Red Sky creates, produces and tours original work for adult and family audiences on local, national and international stages. Laronde is also the director of Aboriginal Arts at The Banff Centre, and divides her time between Toronto and Banff.
