Trabajadores de Lan Express inician huelga a las 00:00 horas de este jueves
· Un 98,19% de los trabajadores de Lan Express votaron la huelga, rechazando la casi nula oferta de aumento salarial de la línea aérea más grande de América Latina.
· Todas las faenas relacionadas con mantención, rampa y asistencia al pasajero se verán afectadas y provocarán demoras y cancelaciones de vuelos en todo el país y conexiones internacionales.
· Latam Airlines mantiene conflictos laborales que afectan el funcionamiento de su empresa y sus vuelos también en Ecuador, Colombia y Brasil.
En Chile votaron la huelga con récord de participación y un contundente 98,19% como muestra de la indignación de los trabajadores por la que califican como "vergonzosa" oferta de LATAM Airlines. La propuesta ignora la situación de sus trabajadores y no se hace cargo de mejorar las condiciones laborales y prefiere seguir manteniendo a segmentos importante de sus trabajadores por debajo de la línea de pobreza.
En la tarde de este martes 7 de abril los trabajadores de Lan Express se reunieron en asamblea en la Central Unitaria de Trabajadores y ratificaron el inicio de la huelga a las 00.00 horas de este jueves 9 de abril.
Luis Chávez, presidente del Sindicato de Trabajadores de LAN Express – Sindilanex, sostiene la fuerza de 881 empleados de la línea aérea más importante de América Latina, que no pueden seguir postergados mientras los dueños de la Compañía se siguen haciendo ricos a costa de tener a trabajadores con sueldos por debajo de la línea de la pobreza. "Tenemos que enfrentar como trabajadores las irregularidades que vivimos hace muchos años, donde los empresarios nos obligan a sacrificarnos por sus sueños. La oferta que nos entregó Lan Chile esta semana en el marco de los buenos oficios de la Inspección del Trabajo (posterior a la votación de la huelga), sigue manteniendo a trabajadores de la Línea Aérea más grade de la región en la pobreza con salarios indignos, hasta por debajo del sueldo mínimo, alrededor de 211 mil (US$ 345) pesos en promedio", sostiene Chávez.
El Sindicato de Trabajadores de Lan Express – Sindilanex, reúne a 881 empleados que desempeñan funciones en la rampa, asistencia al pasajero y mantenimiento, todas vitales para el buen funcionamiento y seguridad de los vuelos en los aeropuertos de todo Chile.
La demanda salarial y de mejoramiento de condiciones laborales es compartida por los demás trabajadores de loza y aeropuerto, quienes se han sumado a las movilizaciones, entre ellos la Federación de Trabajadores LAN compuesta por el Sindicato LAN Cargo, Sindicato Fast-Air, Sindicato Mantenimiento LAN, Sindicato LAN Express, Sindicato Sky, Sindicato Airman y el Sindicato Andes junto al Sindicato de Tripulantes de Cabina de LAN Chile, y demás sindicatos del aeropuerto.
Más conflictos laborales en Ecuador, Colombia y Brasil
En Ecuador, desde octubre del 2014, las movilizaciones y protestas no se detienen contra LAN Ecuador, tras el despido de la fundadora y secretaria general del primer sindicato aeronáutico de ese país, Jimena López – una de las demandas de los trabajadores en Chile es que sea reintegrada.
En Colombia la compañía está despidiendo a los mecánicos y personal de carga con más experiencia de su staff. El sindicato estará movilizado. Los pasajeros en Colombia serán advertidos de posibles demoras en sus vuelos.
Chile, Colombia, Ecuador y Brasil son importantes ejes de conexión para vuelos en toda América Latina y la demora de un vuelo, afecta las conexiones en todos los países donde opera el holding Latam Airlines durante los próximos días.

Los sindicatos de LAN y TAM Airlines son miembros activos de la Federación Internacional de los Trabajadores del Transporte (ITF) que representa a más de 4.5 millones de trabajadores del transporte en 150 países del mundo. La compañía LATAM Airlines GROUP incluye a las chilena LAN Airlines y la brasileña TAM Airlines siendo la transportadora más grande de Latinoamérica.

Lan Express Workers go on strike at 00:00 hours on Thursday
· 98.19% of Lan Express workers voted to strike, rejecting the almost zero wage increase offered by the largest airline in Latin America.
· All areas related to maintenance, ramp and passenger assistance are likely to be affected and cause delays and flight cancellations across the country and international connections.
· Latam Airlines has ongoing labour disputes which affect its operations and also its flights in Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil.
In Chile workers voted to strike with record participation and a strong 98.19% vote as a sign of their indignation at what they described as a "shameful" offer by LATAM Airlines. The company's proposal ignores the status of the workers and takes no responsibility for improving working conditions, instead preferring to keep a significant segment of the workforce below the poverty line.
On the evening of Tuesday April 7 Lan Express workers assembled at Chile's trade union confederation the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores and agreed the commencement of strike action from 00.00 (midnight) on Thursday April 9.
Luis Chavez, president of the Union of Workers of LAN Express (Sindilanex), representing 881 employees of the largest airline in Latin America, said that they could not put off action while the owners of the company are still getting rich at the expense of workers living below the poverty line. "We have to face as workers the irregularities which we've lived with for many years, where management require us to make sacrifices so their dreams can be realised. The offer that Lan Chile made this week as part of the good offices of the Labour Inspectorate (following the strike ballot), keeps the workers of the region's largest airline in poverty, with unjust wages, below the minimum wage - about 211,000 (US$ 345) pesos on average," Chavez stated.
Sindilanex brings together 881 employees ramp, passenger assistance and maintenance workers - all in vital areas for the proper functioning and safety of flights at airports throughout Chile.
The demand for improved pay and working conditions is shared by other airport workers, who have joined the demonstrations, including the Federación de Trabajadores LAN which is composed of the Sindicato LAN Cargo, Sindicato Fast-Air, Sindicato Mantenimiento LAN, Sindicato LAN Express, Sindicato Sky, Sindicato Airman and the Sindicato Andes along with the Sindicato de Tripulantes de Cabina de LAN Chile, and other unions from the airport.
More labour disputes in Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil
In Ecuador, demonstrations and protests have been held unceasingly since October 2014 against LAN Ecuador, following the dismissal of the founder and secretary general of the country's first aviation union, Jimena Lopez – one of the demands of the Chilean workers is that she is reinstated.
In Colombia the company is laying off its most experienced mechanics and loading staff. The union will be mobilised. Passengers in Colombia will be advised of possible delays to their flights.
Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil are major hubs for connecting flights throughout Latin America and the delay of a flight is likely to affect connections in all countries where the Latam Airlines Group operates over the coming days.
