ITF backs Air France unions
The executive board of the ITF (International Transport Workers' Federation), representing transport workers' unions worldwide, has spoken out today in Chennai, India, to back the unions confronting Air France's job cuts plan. The board also expressed their and their unions' support for today's demonstration in Paris* against the cuts.
Executive board member and federal secretary of the FEETS-FO union, Zainil Nizaraly, commented: "The resolution adopted today by the executive committee of the ITF is a strong message of support for the employees and Air France activists who are fighting against the social violence of job cuts and against the attempted criminalisation of union action."
ITF president Paddy Crumlin added: "Messages of support from ITF unions have been flooding in for Air France workers and their union 'intersyndicale' (coalition), and that international support will be on show today in Paris and in the weeks ahead until this plan to scythe jobs is abandoned."
The text of the resolution adopted by the meeting in India today is as follows:
The Executive Board of the ITF meeting in Chennai on 22nd October 2015:
NOTES that Air France plans to cut 2,900 jobs – 1,700 ground staff, 900 cabin crew and 300 pilots – in 2016.
NOTES that the ITF Civil Aviation section has supported the actions and will continue to back our affiliates in their battle with Air France.
NOTES that our Air France affiliates immediately denounced the isolated incidents during the protests of 5th October in an otherwise peaceful demonstration that ended in 5 union leaders that were detained and prosecuted.
NOTES that Air France unions have called for tripartite social dialogue in order to define a strategy of industrial redevelopment of the airline instead of a strategy of job and costs reduction. They have already worked with Air France to implement important productivity efforts.
BELIEVES that forcing skilled workers into unemployment is the original act of violence.
OPPOSES to any attempt to criminalize the actions of trade unions and demands the reinstatement of the dismissed workers.
OPPOSES any plan of dismissals in any of the airlines of the Air France-KLM group.
ENCOURAGES affiliates to act in unity and supports the "intersyndical" of Air France unions for the national demonstration on 22 October (TODAY) to protest against the company's dismissal plan and to demand a better future for Air France workers.
CALLS ON ITF affiliates to commit support to this struggle.

L'ITF soutient les syndicats d'Air France
Le Comité exécutif de l'ITF (Fédération internationale des ouvriers du transport), qui représente les syndicats des transports du monde entier, réuni aujourd'hui à Chennai, en Inde, a pris position en faveur des syndicats confrontés au plan de restructuration d'Air France. Le Comité a également exprimé son soutien, et celui des syndicats affiliés à l'ITF, à la mobilisation organisée aujourd'hui à Paris*.
Zainil Nizaraly, membre du Comité exécutif et secrétaire fédéral du syndicat FEETS-FO, a déclaré : « La résolution adoptée aujourd'hui par le Comité exécutif de l'ITF est un message de soutien fort pour les salariés et les militants d'Air France qui se battent contre la violence sociale des suppressions d'emplois et contre les tentatives de criminalisation de l'action syndicale. »
Le Président de l'ITF, Paddy Crumlin, a ajouté : « Les messages de soutien aux personnels d'Air France et à leur intersyndicale affluent de toutes parts, et ce soutien international des affiliés de l'ITF sera palpable à Paris aujourd'hui et dans les semaines qui viennent, tant que ce plan de suppression de postes ne sera pas abandonné. »

NOTE qu'Air France compte supprimer 2900 postes – 1700 au sol, 900 hôtesses et stewards, et 300 pilotes – en 2016.
NOTE que la Section de l'aviation civile de l'ITF a soutenu l'action des syndicats et continuera d'être là pour nos affiliés dans leur combat contre la direction.
NOTE que nos affiliés d'Air France ont immédiatement dénoncé l'incident isolé qui a émaillé la manifestation du 5 octobre, par ailleurs pacifique, et qui a débouché sur l'interpellation et la mise en garde à vue de cinq syndicalistes.
NOTE que les syndicats des personnels d'Air France réclament un dialogue social tripartite pour définir une stratégie de redéveloppement social de la compagnie, plutôt qu'une destruction des emplois et une réduction des coûts. Ils ont déjà collaboré avec la direction pour mettre en œuvre d'importants efforts de productivité.
ESTIME que la vraie violence, c'est de précipiter des travailleurs qualifiés vers le chômage.
S'OPPOSE à toute tentative de criminalisation des actions des syndicats, et réclame la levée des procédures disciplinaires engagées contre les salariés interpellés.
S'OPPOSE à tout plan de licenciement au sein du groupe Air France-KLM.
ENCOURAGE les affiliés à agir ensemble et à soutenir l'intersyndicale d'Air France lors de la journée de mobilisation nationale le 22 octobre (AUJOURD'HUI) pour protester contre le plan de restructuration et exiger un autre avenir pour Air France.
APPELLE LES AFFILIÉS DE L'ITF à soutenir ce combat.
