ABSTRACT The international conference Greening the Islands! aims to implement an interdisciplinary approach studying the interactions between water and energy on the islands. This will also help to bridge the gap between energy, hydrology, social and ecological/environmental sciences.
Nowadays the islands are facing the most challanging time. The change in the life style, the incresing needs of energy and water with serious pollution consequences, the sea level rise due to the climate change, etc. are dramatically affecting the resilience of the island ecosystems.
Greening the Islands! aims to cope with these challenges, providing sustainable and integrated solutions to increase water and energy availability and efficiency. The event will bring together different stakeholders, enterpreneurs, scientists, politicians and decision makers around a table to discuss the most appropriate policies and strategies.
In particular the conference will be the opportunity to show best practices on energy and water solutions that can be replicated not only in the islands all over the world but also in many remote locations. Greening the Islands! will be an annual and itinerant international conference that will push and monitor the development toward a full sustainability of the islands. |
