TERNA CONFIRMED IN THE DOW JONES SUSTAINABILITY INDEX FOR THE EIGHTH YEAR RUNNING

·      The company chaired by Catia Bastioli and led by Matteo del Fante is a world champion for sustainability
·      Highest score for environmental performance in the Electric Utilities sector
·       Maximum score (100/100) for the new category "Materiality"

Rome, 9 September 2016 The results of the annual review carried out by the Swiss sustainability rating agency RobecoSAM confirm Terna's place in the top tier of the prestigious Dow Jones World Sustainability Index that evaluates over 2000 companies globally. Terna's inclusion is particularly significant because only six Italian companies are present in the index, which represents an authority in ranking the 316 world champions for sustainability.

The Group scored 97/100 for the environmental component, up three points on 2015, placing it at the top of the Electric Utilities sector. The result for the economic component is also up three points. This component evaluates the quality of management and aspects such as risk management, anti-corruption activities, management of the supply chain and the application of the principle of materiality, where Terna achieved the maximum possible score. The materiality component, introduced this year, recognises the coherence of Terna's sustainability approach, from identification of the areas most closely connected to the creation of value, to their management through dedicated policies and instruments, including executive compensation.

"We are particularly proud of this new placing in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index which recognises Terna's high international standing also in terms of sustainability", commented Terna's CEO, Matteo Del Fante. "Today's result recognises our ability to do clear and sustainable business, and also represents an important indication for the Group in terms of where to orient our decisions with the aim of further improvement".

The RobecoSAM annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) represents a detailed sustainability audit of the companies involved which highlights preparation for and positioning with regard to macro trends in sustainability, and therefore the ability of companies to create value in the medium and long term. More specifically, the assessment analyses the presence of management policies and systems able to achieve excellent economic, social and environmental results.

The RobecoSAM agency evaluated the sustainability performance of the largest capitalisation companies, carrying out detailed analysis of corporate risk-management systems and opportunities regarding the social and environmental impacts of the company.

In addition to inclusion in the DJSI, Terna is also present in the following international sustainability indices: ECPI, ESI (Ethibel Sustainability Index), FTSE4Good (Global and Europe), MSCI, STOXX® ESG (Global, Environmental, Social and Governance), STOXX® Low Carbon, Vigeo Euronext (World, Europe and Eurozone), and United Nations Global Compact ("GC100"); and in the following Italian indices: FTSE ECPI Italia SRI Benchmark and Italia SRI Leaders, drawn up only from listed Italian companies.
