WATER & ENERGY INTERACTIONS:
STRATEGIC CHALLENGES TO TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT
 
Lyon, March 18th, 2014 – Alongside the next World Water Day of March 22nd, the Greater Lyon (Communauté urbaine de Lyon), the Rhone-Alps Regional Council (Conseil Régional Rhône-Alpes), the Rhone River - Méditerranée & Corse Basin Water Authority and EDF (Electricité de France), in partnership with the World Water Council, the French Water Partnership, the SHF and the GRAIE (Research Center on Water Infrastructures) will host from 29th to 31st October, 2014 an international conference in Lyon.
 
The objectives are:
  • to reach out to international actors and decisions-makers on strategic issues
  • to share knowledge on strategic local projects and expertise, as well as to lighlight the failures which should be avoided
  • to make the case for territorial development (and growth, competitiveness and attractiveness opportunities)
  • to improve scientific recognition, dissemination and uses of communications
  • to formalize the existing progress with regards to policies and strategies related to water and energy issuesto exchange on technical and governance solutions / innovations
  • exchange insights on technical and governance solutions / innovations
 
Water and energy are essential to one another. To improve governance between the two sectors more research and wide dissemination of the solutions are required.
 
This conference will serve as a transition from the 6th Marseilles World Water Forum in 2012 to 7th in March 2015 in Daegu, South Korea, and will also prepare efforts towards the COP 21 meeting (Dec. 2015 in Paris, France). Thus, it is embedded in the preparatory process of the 7th World Water Forum and will showcase local authorities’ international involvement on these strategic issues.
