ITF: 'World Cup warning well and truly sounded'
Commenting on this week's warning actions by workers of the LATAM airline across Latin America, ITF (International Transport Workers' Federation) civil aviation secretary Gabriel Mocho said: "A World Cup warning has been well and truly sounded. This week's actions are a push for fairness across the airline and a taste of what could happen in the World Cup if serious inequalities are not addressed."
He continued: "Under the slogan 'We are all LAN Peru', LATAM workers have been expressing their support for their colleagues in Peru, where a strike next week has now become much more likely, following the management's refusal to remedy dramatic inequalities of pay. Meanwhile in Argentina unions are struggling for a decent collective bargaining agreement.
"Last month the ITF network of LATAM unions warned the company that a failure to restart pay negotiations, stalled since late 2013, with Peruvian unions, could result in industrial action and cause flight delays or cancellations during the tournament."
Mocho continued: "The core of the problem is the fact that LATAM is paying mechanics working for LAN Peru around half of those employed by them to do the same job in Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The 55,000 workers across the group want to see this injustice brought to an end."
He concluded: "LATAM workers don't want to strike during the World Cup but they have had enough. The ball is now in the company's court. If they won't listen to us maybe they'll listen to the sound of their share price falling and the questions put by passengers about what's going to happen during the tournament. Because if the company's regional management continues to refuse to engage in direct talks with the unions, the workers feel they have little choice but to take industrial action."
Regional aviation giant LATAM is the result of the merger in 2012 of LAN, the Chilean flag carrier, and TAM, Brazil's biggest airline. The group operates in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, and is represented by TAM in Brazil.

LATAM Airlines Refuses to Settle Worker Disputes in Peru and Argentina Despite Negotiating in Brazil
Warnings of Flight Cancellations and Delays Continue into World Cup
• LATAM Airlines refuses to discuss the injustices workers in Argentina and Peru are facing, despite negotiating with workers in Brazil today.
• Without an agreement in Argentina, Peru and Brazil, strikes, work actions and mobilizations will continue throughout Latin America during the times when World Cup air traffic is at its highest point.
• LAN Peru has become a strategic hub for LATAM airlines, with an increased number of national and international flights. With the new hangar in Lima, LAN Peru has been converted into a maintenance center for the region. Argentina is one of the major hubs for flights into Brazil.
Until the company resolves its problems in Peru and Argentina, Latin American aviation workers will continue to keep passengers informed about LAN and TAM Airline delays and cancellations at airports in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Paraguay and using social media.
LAN Peru workers are paid have of what workers in the rest of the company are paid for doing the same work and have been 10 years without a salary increase. The Argentinean flight attendants have been years without a collective work agreement because the company has been attempting to support a "yellow" union, a union that was created by the company itself in order to avoid the necessary legal agreement with the flight attendants.
Passengers and players have the right to know that their flights may be delayed due to the inability of the company to provide a stable working environment.

ITF: 'La advertencia de huelga en la Copa Mundial está teniendo un gran eco'
"'La advertencia de huelga en la Copa Mundial está teniendo un gran eco. Las acciones de esta semana suponen un impulso para la equidad en esta aerolínea y una muestra de lo que podría suceder en el Mundial de Fútbol si no se remedian estas profundas desigualdades", comentó Gabriel Mocho, secretario de Aviación Civil de la Federación Internacional de los Trabajadores del Transporte (ITF), sobre las acciones de aviso que llevaron a cabo en toda Latinoamérica los trabajadores y trabajadoras de la aerolínea LATAM."
"Bajo el lema 'Todos somos LANPeruano', los trabajadores y trabajadoras de LATAM expresaron su solidaridad con sus colegas de Perú, donde parece muy probable que la semana que viene comience la huelga que tienen convocada, visto que la gerencia se niega a solucionar las enormes desigualdades salariales. Paralelamente, los sindicatos argentinos están luchando por un convenio colectivo de trabajo digno."
"El mes pasado, la Red de Sindicatos LATAM de la ITF advirtió a la compañía que si no reanudaba las negociaciones salariales con los sindicatos peruanos, paralizadas desde finales de 2013, se podría llegar a una huelga coincidiendo con el Mundial de Futbol, que provocaría retrasos y cancelaciones de vuelos".
"La raíz del problema es que LATAM paga a los técnicos aeronáuticos que trabajan en LAN Perú aproximadamente la mitad del salario que reciben los técnicos aeronáuticos de Argentina, Brasil y Chile por realizar el mismo trabajo. Los 55 000 trabajadores y trabajadoras de este holding están dispuestos a acabar con esta injusticia", añade Mocho.
"Lo último que quieren los trabajadores y trabajadoras de LATAM es ir a la huelga durante el Mundial de Fútbol, pero ya están más que hartos. La pelota se encuentra ahora en el tejado de la compañía. Si no nos escuchan a nosotros, tal vez sí quieran escuchar el clamor del precio de sus acciones bajando o a los pasajeros, cuando les pregunten qué va a suceder durante el Mundial. Porque si la gerencia regional de la compañía continúa negándose a entablar conversaciones directas con los sindicatos, a los trabajadores no les quedará otra opción que ir a la huelga", concluyó.
LATAM, el grupo aéreo más importante de Latinoamérica, surgió en 2012 luego de la fusión de la aerolínea de bandera chilena LAN y la mayor compañía aérea de Brasil, TAM. El grupo opera en Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay y Perú, y en Brasil está representado por TAM.

LATAM Airlines se niega a cerrar acuerdo colectivo en Peru y Argentina a pesar de que continúan las negociaciones en Brasil.
Advertencias de cancelaciones y demoras cerca de la COPA MUNDIAL
• LATAM Airlines se niega a discutir y firmar mejoras en las injusticias que viven los trabajadores de Argentina y Perú a pesar de que continúan las negociaciones en Brasil durante la fecha.
• Sin un acuerdo colectivo en Argentina, Peru y Brasil, las huelgas, acciones colectivas y movilizaciones continuaran en América Latina durante los tiempos del mayor trafico desde y hacia la COPA MUNDIAL
• LAN Perú se ha transformado en un HUB estratégico para el Grupo LATAM, incrementado los vuelos y frecuencias nacionales e internacionales. Con el nuevo hangar en Lima, LAN Perú se está convirtiendo en un polo de mantenimiento alternativo para la región. Argentina es uno de los puntos principales para los vuelos a Brasil.
Hasta que la empresa no resuelva sus problemas en Perú y Argentina, los trabajadores de aviación de América latina continuarán informando a los pasajeros acerca de las demoras y cancelaciones de LAN y TAM en los aeropuertos y redes sociales de Brasil, Perú, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, y Paraguay.
Los técnicos de LAN Peru reciben la mitad de salario que los técnicos de las demás filiales y hace 10 años que no tienen recomposicion de su salario. En Argentina la disputa es con los tripulantes argentinos que hace años no tienen un convenio colectivo de trabajo debido a que la empresa alimenta las negociaciones con un sindicato "amarillo" creado por la misma compañía.
Los pasajeros y los jugadores tienen el derecho de saber cual es la situación de sus vuelos y que podrían estar demorados por la incapacidad de la empresa de establecer un ambiente laboral estable.
